In support of Paul Robinson

After a number of blunders Paul Robinson’s England place is rightly under threat.

Rightly, because no player should be guaranteed the position in the team. But, the quality of his potential replacements still cause concern.

David James was the choice last night, but his faults have always been concentration and decision making. When playing for Portsmouth, he is involved much more and has less time to think, and is able to demonstrate his fantastic shot saving abilities that won so many points for his team last season.

The other choices include Carson and Kirkland, who Liverpool has considered not as good as Reina, West Ham’s Rob Green and Man Utd’s Ben Foster. Of these, none have yet provided convincing evidence that they should take the role.

If McLaren believes Robinson is the best of his goalkeepers, then he needs to show his confidence by continuing to pick him.
