Everton look set to sign Wolves central defender Joleon Lescott for an as yet undisclosed fee. The 23 year old has been targeted by several Premiership clubs and is thought to be worth £4 million.

Everton last week signed Andy Johnson for £8.5 million and are also favourites to sign Chelsea’s Robert Huth for around £5.5 million.

This takes manager David Moyes’ spending to £18 million.

In a twist from last year’s scenario where Everton feared they might lose their Champions League place to arch-rivals Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspurs will lose their spot to Arsenal if the Gunners are victorious in this year’s competition.

Everton’s Duncan Ferguson will serve a seven match ban for his sending off at Wigan.

He has received an additional 4 match suspension for striking Chimbonda, on top of his original 3 matches for punching Scharner.

The sending off was Ferguson’s 8th in the Premiership, equalling Patrick Viera’s record.
