England 6 - Jamaica 0

A hat-trick from Peter Crouch was the highlight of England’s comfortable 6-nil victory over Jamaica.

Jamaica, chosen as England’s final friendly opponents before the World Cup for their similiarities to group stage rivals Trinidad and Tobago, provided little resistance as the game turned into a practise game for the home team. Jamaica provided a few lively attacks against England’s sleepy looking defence, but from the midfield back were overwhelmed when England went forward.

Against the poor quality of the opposition, it was difficult to find too many technical positives for England, but a morale boosting scoreline, and the possibility of Crouch as a source of international goals (something that prior to the last few games had looked unlikely) at least gave fans a cause for optimism in the light of Rooney’s injury.

Lampard, Owen and an own goal provided England’s other goals. Crouch missed a penalty.

Crouch’s penalty miss. A shocker. England continue to miss too many penalties, and must fear a shoot out defeat again if they get that far.

Peter Crouch‘s form and his run of goals in the recent friendlies (5 in 3 games) might provide some much needed goal scoring back-up to Michael Owen.
