German captain aims to move before June
Germany’s Michael Ballack is hopeful of signing for Chelsea before the start of the World Cup in June. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich captain is out of contract in May and his agent said: “I think there is definitely something happening before the World Cup.”
The Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his interest in a player he values at over £20 million.
“For me Ballack is one of the best players in the world. He’s very intelligent, tactically very strong and he scores a lot of goals. In Europe, there’s only Frank Lampard who plays at that level. The two would form a dream pair.
“They’re the two best players in the world in their category.”
Germany fans will be encouraged to hear that the transfer could happen before the start of the World Cup. England fans will remember how Stephen Gerrard’s prolonged on-off transfer to Chelsea seemed to affect his performance in Euro 2004. The German captain seems to have his priorities right in sorting out his career quickly, before his country embarks on a its World Cup challenge on home soil.
